With the Thyrobox DC-3, AEG Power Solutions offers a DC power supply based on new B12 IGBT chopper technology, which is suitable for a wide range of high demand applications. Due to the wide output voltage range, load voltages from 10V up to 500V can be realized with the Thyrobox DC-3. Highlight: now additional filter on AC and DC site necessary, thanks to our topology we don´t need costy and time-consuming filters
Available in 2 versions:
  • Compact version up to 900A DC, air cooled, transformer integrated ready for connection at low voltage grid
  • Modular version with 1.800 A per each modul,  water cooling, external transformer allows connection to low voltage or medium voltage grid. System can be extended by paralleling of modules, this allows in the same time to build for system redundancy

Power Island Off-Grid Solutions
Until recently the only viable way of supplying electricity to remote areas was via a conventional genset, which has led to the installation of more than 50,000 gensets worldwide. Given the world market price for diesel fuel, the cost of energy has increased significantly. Taking fuel transportation into consideration, the total cost for diesel fuel varies between 1 and 2 €/l. With a typical efficiency of 3 kWh/l the operating cost for conventional gensets results in 33 to 66 ct/kWh. At the same time, PV prices have dropped dramatically and will continue to decline in the future, reducing the cost of energy to less than 10 ct/kWh. These numbers illustrate that PV power offers a huge potential for rural electricity. However, due to the volatile nature of solar radiation, the integration of PV is limited to 20–30 % of the rated system power. If a higher share of PV is installed, the system becomes unstable and power outages can occur. AEG PS battery energy storage solutions focus on combined PV / Diesel / energy storage turnkey projects for the provision of basic levels of electrification and for fossil fuel efficiency measures in remote areas. Regarding to actual studies performed by the German Power Engineering Society (ETG) with the installation of battery energy storage, the upper limit for the installed PV capacity can be increased and total energy costs (€/kWh) can be reduced.

Systemsolutions from AEG PS
Based on the bi-directional Storage Converter SC.600 (max. power >800kVA) AEG PS offers different solutions of grid integration and use in corporate grids.
1. Container based solutions.
System componenents are installed into containers:
PCS container pre-installed 2 SC.600 Storage Converter, LV distribution, transformer and MV switch gear optional. All components are pre-installed, tested and ready for connection and on-site commissioning.
Alternativly for systems of very big power and capacity: PCS container ready for 4 Storage Converters, in this case transformer and MV switch gear will be installed seperately.
Batterie Container integrates batteries, BMS (battery management system), air conditioning, fire extinguishing system. All components are pre-installed, tested and ready for connection and on-site commissioning.

PCS and battery container will be connected by power cables, communication requires a fibre optic ring structure. Paralleling of PCS Containers and battery containers is made typically on the MV voltage site of the installation.
2. Outdoor Solution:
SC.600 Storage Converter installed into outdoor enclosure, the outdoor enclosure includes LV power switch and communication interface. On-site installation happens on pre manufactured concrete pads, cable entry through the concrete pad. This saves on container and makes logistics easier, because instead of big and heavy containers you have to ship standard metal enclosures.

Warstein-Belecke, Germany, March 9, 2017 - AEG Power Solutions, a global provider of power supply systems and solutions for all types of critical and demanding applications, announces its latest version of their Protect SC. 600 Storage Converter, now with a new outdoor enclosure which reduces global installation costs and simplifies system usage, for any type of battery storage energy application, on or off-grid.
The Protect SC.600 bi-directional power converter from AEG Power Solutions with IGBT technology is based on their highly successful Protect PV solar inverter platform.
The core element of any battery energy storage system, the converter charges and discharges batteries to store or provide power according to the application requirement such as frequency control, peak shaving, energy shifting (temporary storage to re-inject power when maximizing profitability), or voltage control (often used to balance the voltage instability generated by integration of renewables in the grid).
Protect SC. 600 provides an outstanding conversion efficiency factor for both the charging and discharging phases. Thanks to its wide DC input range, it may be used with any state of the art battery technology currently available.
The enhanced Protect SC.600 version allows a seamless transition between off-grid and on-grid mode. This function is available as an option. This extends the battery energy system’s usage beyond its core functions, such as peak shaving for system back-up in the event of a grid blackout. This presents an additional benefit for any industrial or commercial customer who invests in battery systems primarily to decrease their energy costs and have an all-in-one installation that also integrates the security of their power supply.
This new option is a must when battery energy storage is used in remote areas or islands where grid reliability is uncertain or for full off-grid applications in similar geographies.

Protect SC. 600 can be easily implemented in a turnkey solution including batteries and medium voltage transformers. The new outdoor enclosure has been designed to house one Protect SC.600, an optional AC low voltage circuit breaker, a communication interface as well as an auxiliary power supply. The outdoor enclosure replaces the usage of containers whose weight and size make it difficult to transport and handle. With Protect SC.600, up to four units of the new outdoor system can be loaded onto a truck, and transported where on site, the complete units can be moved with a forklift truck replacing the need for heavy load cranes.
The outdoor enclosure decreases the cost by 20% compared to container solutions. Combined with outdoor transformers this is a smart solution for building battery storage installations.
Thanks to the on-grid off- grid mode seamless transition capability, AEG PS solution for battery storage installation becomes ideally suited to support any type of energy storage application as well as simultaneously secure power supply for critical processes and infrastructure.
The new Protect SC. 600 is currently running at several sites around the world in various types of energy storage installations, operating successfully with lead-acid, Lithium-ion or redox flow batteries, and already establishing records for its reliability and efficiency.
