Otto Dix– the celebrated painter and notorious enfant terrible – spent 1922 to 1925 in Düsseldorf, three years which were very intensive in his creative life. During this period he was highly ambitious and indeed a workaholic, as he developed into a portrait artist and mercilessly recorded the features of his contemporaries on canvas. K20 will be presenting a special exhibition called Otto Dix – The Evil Eye, the first monographic exhibition to focus on these highly prolific years in Dix’s development.
The case of Düsseldorf’s celebrity millionaire Otto Erich Simons was one of the most spectacular criminal cases in post-war history. “Der Fall Simon” (The Simon Case) has now been turned into a stage play. The theatre company Schauspielhaus will be performing the play at the Dreischeibenhaus – a high-rise office building that dominates the skyline as an architectural symbol of Germany’s economic miracle. 16 March.
Düsseldorf’s Carnival season will have an extension on the city’s most beautiful promenade along the river Rhine. The Apollo Varieté will whisk you off into an unparalleled city with gondolas, canals and palaces, forming a magnificent backdrop to an extremely lavish costume party.
