A HySTAT™ 10 outdoor unit is installed in a 30Ft. housing, greatly simplifying implementation at customer’s site. It is a turnkey solution including a hydrogen generating unit with one of our proprietary IMET™ cell stack, a control/power panel with controlled AC/DC conversion and all the needed peripherals (according to customer’s requirements) to produce hydrogen in a safe and reliable way. The maximum working pressure is 10 barg (30 barg optional) and the gas purity can be up to 99.999%.

To meet the demands of growing urban populations, governments around the world are prioritizing investments in public transit infrastructure, including light rail and regional express rail service.[1] Light rail transit vehicles and regional express trains can move large numbers of people efficiently, and often function as the backbone of urban transportation systems.

To make rail an emissions-free mode of transportation, commuter trains can be powered electrically, through direct contact with overhead, high-voltage lines.  However, building the infrastructure to support extensive overhead power lines can be very expensive, and can delay or forestall the development of electrified rail service.

But an alternative approach to electric train design could resolve the challenge. It involves the use of hydrogen fuel cells to generate electricity onboard a train, providing power for propulsion and other critical systems. The application of hydrogen fuel cell technology to railway electrification is informally called, “Hydrail”.

Power-to-Gas: Bridging the Power Grid and Natural Gas System

Hydrogenics is leading in Power-to-Gas – an innovative energy conversion and storage solution using electrolysis – that integrates renewable sources of generation, converts surplus electricity to produce hydrogen or renewable gas, and leverages the attributes of the existing natural gas infrastructure.

Power-to-Gas is a highly effective way of integrating renewables.  It can provide a rapid, dynamic response to the Independent Grid Operator’s signal to adjust to the variations in renewable generation output.  The siting of a Power-to-Gas facility is not restricted to any geologic formation as it can be deployed wherever the power and gas grids intersect.  It is a scalable technology.

Power-to-Gas provides  unparalleled energy storage capacity in the TWh range for seasonal storage capability.  It can charge energy for several days, or even consecutive weeks, without needing to discharge the stored energy.

Unlike other energy storage technologies, Power-to-Gas provides the means to both store and transport energy.  By storing hydrogen or substituting natural gas in the existing natural gas pipeline network and associated underground storage facilities, the stored energy can be discharged where and when it is needed most.  This results in a higher overall integrated system efficiency.
